Discover Ouddorp — Mer du Nord
Ouddorp is a rugged North Sea beach at the tip of Goeree, by the Westhoofd lighthouse — not to be confused with the quieter Brouwersdam next door. High waves (~2 m on average), a punchy shorebreak and a strong tidal current. An easterly off the land? Don't rig up.
Ouddorp is the rugged counterpart to the Brouwersdam next door: a wide, open North Sea beach at the tip of Goeree, by the Westhoofd lighthouse. There are high waves here (around 2 m on average), a punchy shorebreak and a strong tidal current — no flat lagoon, but a wave and freeride spot for self-reliant riders. The tide is structural: at low water it's shallow for a long way and the stone breakwaters between the accesses uncover; on the flood it gets deep fast, with a strong ebb current (especially towards access 9). The wind that works comes off the sea (SW to NNE); an easterly off the land takes you out to sea and has no place here, and just behind the dunes the air is turbulent. Kiting happens in the designated zone between the accesses — per the municipality, between accesses 7 and 9 — and the signs on site are what count. The sandbank a kilometre offshore is a seal area and off-limits. For anyone who respects the current, the breakwaters and the wind sector, it's a real, honest North Sea spot.
Level and best time
Advanced, not a beginner spot: the main hazard is the strong current and punchy shorebreak, so a fast waterstart is a must. Schools that mention 'Ouddorp' usually teach at the Brouwersdam or in the shallows at low tide — one school deliberately won't teach here because of the waves and current. For riders self-reliant in waves and current.

The tide really counts here: at low water it's shallow for a long way out and the breakwaters between the accesses uncover; on the flood it gets deep fast. There's a strong ebb current, especially by the Iloon beach bar (access 9). Year-round.

Kiting happens in the designated zone, on the North Sea beach between the accesses — per the municipal order (2023), the allowed kite zone is between accesses 7 and 9. The exact markers are on the dune-access signs on site; older texts cite different posts, so the signs are what count. You can park (said to be free) on the Groenedijk, then ~15 minutes' walk along the dune path — amount/date to confirm on site.

The wind that works comes off the sea (SW, W, NW, N, NNE). An easterly off the land is dangerous — 'in offshore wind, if something goes wrong you're blown off the beach' — so you don't ride it. The lifeguard brigade raises an orange flag in offshore wind (unsafe to go out). Keep your distance from the dunes too, where the wind turns unpredictable from turbulence.
source : kitegids.nl ↗The main natural hazard is the strong current and shorebreak — very strong currents form around the sandbanks, and around the breakwaters there can be deadly backwash, so keep your distance. The stone breakwaters between the accesses uncover at low tide. Kite only in the designated zone between the accesses (municipality: between accesses 7 and 9); the sandbank ~1 km out is a seal area and off-limits. Read the signs.
