Makadi Bay is a big resort bay south of Hurghada, set between desert and mountains. But the real playground isn't in front of the hotels: the schools take you out by boat, about fifteen minutes offshore, to a flat lagoon with waist-deep water and clean wind. Out there you learn and progress in peace, away from the chop and gusts of the bay.
Makadi plays a different card: rather than riding in front of the hotels, where the wind is gusty because of the buildings, the schools ferry riders by boat to a flat lagoon offshore. Waist-deep water, sandy bottom, clean wind: it's a giant pool for learning and linking moves without stress. Those after waves or stronger wind find their fix beyond the lagoon too. That guided comfort is what makes the bay's name.
Great for learning and progressing. The offshore lagoon (near Abu Hashish island and the Blue Lagoon) offers waist-deep water where falls are harmless and wind direction barely matters. The schools (Kite Club Makadi, Star Surf) coach every level there, from first lesson to freeride. The bay in front of the hotels, gustier, mainly serves as a base.
