An enclosed, warm lagoon so shallow you can stand far from shore: the Mar Menor at Los Narejos is one of Spain's finest learning grounds.
Los Narejos, on the western shore of the Mar Menor at Los Alcázares, is an enclosed flat-water lagoon: warm (never below 18 °C), shallow and often standable near the shore. Long sandy beaches, a dedicated kite zone, schools, rentals and beach bars. The engine is the SSW thermal, side-onshore, carrying you back toward and along the beach over standable shallows; ENE, E and NE also work. Because the lagoon is closed, even a slightly offshore wind pushes you across shallow water to the far shore rather than out to sea — hence its safe reputation.
A true beginner spot: an enclosed lagoon, warm water you can stand in far from shore, and a drift that never takes you out to sea — at worst to the shallow far bank. Experienced riders get a flat freestyle playground; only wave lovers will be left wanting.

Sandy beach with a marked kite zone: rig on the sand, launch straight into knee-deep water. Booties recommended (shells), and in summer you share the water with swimmers and boats — stay inside the kite corridor.
Los Alcázares lines the lagoon front with beach bars and restaurants — tapas, fish and ice cream steps from the kite zone — plus supermarkets and cafés in the centre to drink and stock up before your session.
The bottom has mussels and shells, so bring boots. Share the water with swimmers, boats and jet-skis, especially June–August: stay inside the marked kite zone. Land winds (NW 'Poniente', northerlies) don't blow in well and are best avoided.
