A stunning bay at the foot of the mountains, next to the airport, where the wind funnels through a side-offshore corridor: a flat-water speed spot, beautiful and treacherous — kiting is regulated, supervised only.
The island's finest stretch of flat water for speed, and its most demanding: a spot for supervised experts, not somewhere you rig up on your own. The bay opens to the south-west, backed by a corridor of mountains that funnels and speeds up the north-east trade — a funnel effect that can add five to ten knots to whatever is blowing elsewhere on the island. The result is a gorgeous flat and a side-offshore wind that pushes straight out to sea. Beautiful to watch, fearsome to ride: which is exactly why kiting here is regulated, allowed only with the local operator and its rescue boat.

For advanced and expert riders only, and only with a rescue boat. The offshore angle and the accelerated wind through the corridor forgive no mistake: this is not a spot to progress on.

Getting there & parking
The bay lies right next to Cesária Évora airport (VXE). A large sandy launch and landing area, with food and showers on site — logistics are not the problem here.

Here, kiting is regulated: it's only allowed by going through the local school, with its boat and rescue crew. Never solo — that's the condition for riding this spot.

Safety
Side-offshore and overspeed
The wind blows from the land out to sea and the mountain corridor speeds it up: overspeed is unpredictable and pushes you offshore. One mistake and you drift away from shore instead of back to it.

Offshore, the current is very strong: without a boat, swimming back isn't an option. That's exactly why the spot is only rideable with a rescue craft.
