Two hours west of Fortaleza, Flecheiras is a fishing village that has stayed quiet on the Costa dos Ventos. A reef sitting five hundred metres offshore shapes the whole spot: at low tide it leaves behind flat, pool-like pockets, at high tide it lets the chop and a beach break build, while the river delta holds smooth water for freestyle. One stretch of water with several moods, all set by the tide.
Flecheiras keeps the feel of a small fishing village: few riders on the water, an easy-going mood, well away from the crowds of the busier Ceará spots. It's also a central link in a fine downwind run of about twenty-five kilometres, from the Guajiru and Trairi sandbank through Flecheiras and on to Emboaca and Mundaú; the wind road also leads toward Icaraizinho. Between the flat delta, the reef pools and the beach break, every tide builds a different spot.
A spot better suited to intermediate riders. Two things make it demanding: the reef close to shore, with shallows and rocks that dry at low tide, and a wind that turns gusty and unsteady as soon as you drift away from the centre of the village. The flat delta and the low-tide pools open nice windows to build skills, but you'll want a reliable upwind and a solid recovery before you ride here.

Timing is a tide call: at low water the reef opens flat pools and small waves, at high water the chop builds and the beach break comes alive. The trade blows south-east to east, side-shore to side-onshore, 15 to 25 knots in the heart of the season.
