Discover Westende-Bad
Westende-Bad (Middelkerke) is one of Belgium's better wave spots: even at low tide there are still waves. You kite through the De Kwinte beach club, on the Sint-Laureinsstrand. Sideshore wind from the southwest, a launch corridor at the club — and the standing rule: no offshore wind.
Westende-Bad, in Middelkerke, stands out on the Belgian coast: it's billed as one of the country's better wave spots, with waves that hold even at low tide. You kite through the De Kwinte beach club, on the Sint-Laureinsstrand, with a launch corridor sometimes split into beginner / advanced. The wind that works is sideshore, from the southwest; offshore wind is off-limits. The club schedules its supervised group sessions at low tide, to have enough beach — but that's an organisational choice, not a tide cue, and on the tide itself no source says anything. Watch the rules that can differ between the coast and the club: nationally the 7 Bft rule is abolished, while the club regulations keep 'up to 6 Bft'; nationally you may go out to two nautical miles, the club regulations stick to half a mile (900 m). In practice, follow the strictest/local rule and the markers. Access through the club with a talis, rescue jet-ski within reach. A wave spot with character, for self-reliant riders.
Level and best time
35knots rates the spot advanced (waves), but the launch corridor is sometimes split into a beginner and an advanced part, and De Kwinte runs supervised sessions from age 10. So: a wave spot for self-reliant riders, with a supervised option to try it out. Insurance is mandatory in Belgium.

Supervised group sessions are only run at low tide, 'so we have enough beach' — that's an organisational choice, not a general tide rule; on the tide itself, no source gives a window. Plenty of wind in winter and the shoulder seasons. Daytime only.

You kite through the De Kwinte beach club (Koning Ridderdijk 100, Westende-Bad), on the Sint-Laureinsstrand — also called 'Surfclub Westende | Nieuwpoort' / 'VVW Westende' in the sources (likely the same operation). On paper: a day membership (around €20) with insurance and talis; for students and day members, a red club lycra, to be handed back each day. Paid parking. Amount, rate and checking remain to be confirmed on site.
source : 35knots.com ↗With the day card: changing room, shower, compressor and a discount at the bar; De Kwinte also has a beach bar with a panoramic view. The club runs a jet-ski rescue when needed. Lessons and camps at De Kwinte; supervised 2-hour group sessions, from age 10, groups of 8 to 50.

Two ground rules along the whole coast. (1) Offshore wind is off-limits — 'never sail in offshore wind'; from land out to sea it blows you into open water, away from help. You ride sea wind. (2) Leash and quick release are required by law (Royal Decree of 22 June 2016) and written into the club rules ('kite suited to the conditions, with kiteleash and quick release'). The talis proves your insurance. Beach checks come and go, the rule doesn't.
source : 35knots.com ↗Launch and land only in the launch zones at the high-water line in front of the club; outside the watersports zones, stay at least 200 m off the shoreline. No kiting in the swim zone or the buffer (tall red buoys), daytime only. Watch two divergences between the national framework and the club rules: wind strength (national: 7 Bft rule abolished; club: up to 6 Bft) and distance out to sea (national: two nautical miles; club: half a mile / 900 m). In practice, follow the stricter rule and the local markers.
