Discover Tanzanie — Zanzibar Jambiani
Jambiani is the quiet face of Zanzibar's east coast: the same reef-protected flatwater lagoon as Paje, only set in an authentic Swahili village away from the crowds. You come here to ride a lot, in peace, a few kilometres south of the buzz.
Jambiani is a Swahili fishing village that has stayed true to itself, set on the edge of the same turquoise lagoon. At low tide, seaweed farmers tend their plots out on the sandflats, dugout canoes dry in the sun, and time seems to slow. Fewer kites in the air, more space to yourself, and clear water stretching out to the reef. You come barefoot and watch-free, to ride plenty in the calm and soak up local life rather than the party. It's the quiet, authentic flip side of Paje: the same backdrop, but with more silence and far fewer people.
Level and best time
At the right tide, Jambiani is very beginner-friendly: the same flat, shallow reef-protected lagoon as Paje, with a side-onshore monsoon wind and warm water. Quieter and more local, there's noticeably more room than on Paje's busy beach — perfect for relaxed learning and steady progression.

Jambiani sits on the south-east coast, just south of Paje (about 8 km). Reckon on roughly 1h–1h15 by road from Zanzibar airport, by taxi or transfer; the last stretch runs through the village down to the beach.
source : kiterr.com ↗You'll find a few kite schools and gear rental (Uhuru Kite, ProKite), low-key guesthouses, and beach restaurants and bars to grab a drink or rinse off the salt. Services stay village-scale here — lower-key and fewer than at Paje.
source : kiterr.com ↗This is the chilled south-east-coast alternative: the same tide-driven lagoon as Paje, whose busier scene is just a short hop north (~8 km). Switch between the two as the mood takes you — quiet riding here, more buzz and schools up there.

The real thing to watch is the tide. At low tide the lagoon drains and exposes the reef flat: coral, sea urchins, seaweed-farm stakes and coral heads sit just at the surface and cut deep. Always check a tide chart and ride mid-to-high tide, when the water covers the hazards. Reef booties are a must, and stay cautious near the bottom and the reef edge.
