Discover Porto Rico — Jobos Beach
On Puerto Rico's north-west coast, at Isabela, Jobos Beach blends the easterly trade running along the coast with north Atlantic winter swells. An accessible, versatile spot, between manageable water near shore and waves rising on the reef — one of the hearts of the Puerto Rican board scene.
Isabela is Puerto Rico's wild board coast, far from San Juan's beaches: cliffs, coconut palms, legendary surf spots and a winter swell from the far north. Jobos is its accessible gathering point — a bay where kiters, surfers and longboarders share the water, in a warm, Hispano-Caribbean, laid-back local community vibe. You come here for versatility and the extra soul of an American island that's kept its character, between a session and a plate of mofongo facing the sunset.
Level and best time
Intermediate: the launch is easy and the water more manageable than at neighbouring Shacks, but the water mixes chop and waves depending on the swell, and you need to handle the return. The wind can be fickle near shore (wind shadow). It's the most approachable spot in the Isabela area, where the kite and surf community is active.

On this north-facing coast, the easterly arrives side-shore and brings you back; the north/north-east winter swell raises the waves and arrives onshore. The south sector is offshore (land wind).

Jobos is in Isabela, on Puerto Rico's north-west coast (Aguadilla airport nearby, San Juan about two hours). The beach faces north; manageable water near shore, reef and waves further out. A few kilometres west, the neighbouring Shacks spot is a wave reef for experts, not to be confused — Jobos is the more accessible of the two.

The working wind (easterly trade, side-shore) brings you back — the south sector would be offshore but it's rare. The real watch-points are the water: rocky bottom and urchins (booties essential), reef and rip currents on the eastern part, and a wind that can drop or turn fickle near shore (wind shadow). In winter, the north swell can build: stay within your level, and only aim for neighbouring Shacks if you're at ease in waves and reef.
